The Harris County Municipal Utility District 249 Board of Directors encourages our neighbors in the District to recycle. Recycling services are available through our waste services provider, Best Trash.
While rumors abound on what may or may not be recycled, here is what you need to know in order to recycle at home, according to Best Trash. The following materials are recyclable:
- Paper
- Newspapers and inserts
- Magazines
- Catalogs
- Junk Mail
- Envelopes
- File Folders
- Computer Paper (white or colored)
- Corrugated Cardboard
- Cereal and Gift Boxes
- Phone books
- Wrapping Paper
- Milk and Juice Cartons
- Wax-coated Boxes
- Metal
- Aluminum Cans
- Aluminum Foil
- Aluminum Foil Plates and Serving Containers
- Metal Food Cans and Lids
- Pots and Pans
- Glass
- Clear and Colored
- Plastic
- Plastic Bags
- Plastic Bottles
- Plastic Jars
- Plastic Tubs and Buckets
Container caps should be removed from them and containers should be rinsed out prior to placement in the provided recycling bin. If a resident has more recyclables than will fit into their recycling container, an additional bag or other container labeled “RECYCLE” may be placed next to the recycling container with excess items and will be collected.
If an item is placed in the recycling bin and is not recyclable, not to worry, Best Trash personnel will leave it behind. Items left behind are not recyclable and should be placed in the trash bin rather than the recycle bin for collection on the next regularly scheduled waste collection day.
Examples of what should not be placed in recycling bins include: yard waste, clothing, wire hangers, mirrors, windows and light bulbs. Paint and solvent containers or items contaminated with paints or solvents should not be placed in the recycle bin.
